WARRENVILLE, Ill. — School bus contractor National Express Corp. recently donated a refurbished school bus to the Brookland Lakeview Community Empowerment Center as a way to partner for the betterment of the community.

The empowerment center is part of the Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia, S.C.

“Our presence here is an expression of the values which guide how our company does business in South Carolina and across the nation,” said David Duke, CEO of National Express Corp. “Whether it is the donation of a bus or whether it is through our providing donated or discounted transportation services, direct financial support or the extraordinary volunteer work of our many associates, National Express works every day to showcase our commitment to being a good corporate citizen and to respecting people in all we do.”

Over a year ago, officials said Duke and Rev. Charles Jackson forged a friendship in which they found commonality: a commitment to serve diverse communities that reflects respect for people.

“Having gotten to know the company well over the past year, I can say that National Express Corporation’s values can be summarized as an uncompromising focus on safety and service, and a passionate respect for people and communities,” Rev. Jackson said.

As a part of the donation, officials said Thomas Built Buses assisted with the refurbishing of the bus, and Bridgestone Tires donated new tires.
