On Jan. 22, the
National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS)
unveiled a position paper on
.
The association said it created the paper because of the ever-expanding need for alternative transportation to service
, foster, special education, and other school transportation needs. This document is designed to help states work toward ensuring safe transportation and meeting vehicle requirements while striving to protect student safety.
"Student safety is our top priority, and there is no doubt that children are safest in the yellow school bus," stated NASDPTS President
. "States are, however, increasingly turning to other modes of transportation, and we want to ensure that everyone has a resource available to help them navigate the options."
Stier thanked NASDPTS President-Elect
and his committee for their tireless efforts on the position paper.
NASDPTS position papers receive extensive review by both the board of directors and state directors prior to release.
