Schmitty & Sons was awarded a contract to provide transportation to Burnsville-Eagan-Savage (Minn.) School District 191 starting on July 1.

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Transportation company Schmitty & Sons has been selected to provide transportation to a local school district.

The new contract, awarded by Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191, begins on July 1 and covers a base period of two years with an additional two-year renewal option.

Under the terms of the contract, Schmitty & Sons will provide the district with school buses and vans, drivers and driver training, bus maintenance, dispatch, and customer service, and will ensure compliance with all safety standards. The company will also supply an on board camera system, electronic student check system, and GPS.

“Schmitty & Sons is very pleased with this award and the opportunity to expand our school bus operation in Minnesota,” said Bill Forbord, the chief operating officer for Schmitty & Sons. “We have a long-standing presence in the school bus industry, since our company’s foundation in 1952. We plan to leverage this experience, cutting-edge technology, as well as our transportation resources, to deliver a high quality, reliable, and most importantly, safe service for the students we will be transporting each day.”

The transportation company also began a collaboration in July 2017 with two electricity providers to pilot an eLion school bus during the 2017-18 school year. The eLion is currently serving Lakeville School District 194, Kathryn Forbord, the director of sales and business operations for Schmitty & Sons, told School Bus Fleet.

Schmitty & Sons operates pupil, transit, and charter contracts, with corporate headquarters in Lakeville, Minnesota, and other locations within the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.
