MUNCIE, Ind. — Muncie Community Schools students could soon be without yellow bus service after a referendum to provide funding for the district’s bus contractor was rejected, rtv6 reports.
M&M Bus Co. operates 74 school buses for the district, and the referendum called for raising property taxes by 22 cents for every $100 of assessed property value. Fifty-four percent of community members voted against giving the bus company $3.35 million for the next school year, according to the news outlet.
Tony Costello, vice president of the district’s school board, said that officials are not sure where the money is going to come from. The next step will be to submit a waiver to the state.
