Maryland Teen Fatally Hit While Trying to Catch School Bus
Police say 16-year-old Kyle Lynam runs into the road as he tries to catch his school bus, and then is fatally hit by an SUV. The driver of the SUV will not face any charges.
BALTIMORE, Md. — Police said that a teen here died after being struck by an SUV while running to catch the school bus on Tuesday, The Baltimore Sun reports.
Cpl. Ethan Brown of Maryland State Police told the news source that at about 6 a.m., 16-year-old Kyle Lynam ran south on the northbound shoulder of the road when he was struck by the SUV. Police said that they believe the bus, headed to North Harford High School, had its yellow lights activated, and had not yet deployed the stop sign with flashing red lights or extended the stop arm to signal traffic in both directions to stop, according to The Baltimore Sun.
Brown added that Lynam was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery, and later died.
Jillian Lader, a spokeswoman for Harford County Public Schools, told The Baltimore Sun that the district is providing counselors for students, and is encouraging them to talk to school staff and their parents or guardians about any feelings they have regarding the accident.
Police said that the driver of the SUV, William P. Murphy Jr. of Felton, Pa., will not face any charges.
