LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A school district here fired a bus driver for inadvertently dragging a 7-year-old student after her backpack got stuck in the door as she was exiting the bus, the Associated Press reports.
Police told the news source the girl was trapped by the backpack being lodged in the door as the bus drove away. She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and released two days later, according to the Associated Press.
Local media outlets reported that Jefferson County Public Schools fired driver Melinda Sanders, saying she failed to follow proper procedures in the May 15 incident, according to the news source. The district said in a letter to Sanders that she was distracted by talking with another student and didn’t check the stairwell before closing the door, according to the Associated Press.
