INDIANAPOLIS — A school bus was involved in a crash and struck a church here on Tuesday, RTV6reports.
The crash happened shortly before 1 p.m. near North Delaware and East Vermont streets with the bus coming to rest against the side of Roberts Park United Methodist Church, according to the news source.
Rita Reith, a spokeswoman for the Indiana Fire Department, told RTV6 that the bus, transporting a total of 37 people, collided with a tow truck and then struck the church. Reith added that after the collision the tow truck collided with three parked cars.
Indianapolis Fire Department said on its Facebook page that five students, ages 9 to 10, and three adults were transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The department also noted that there was slight damage to the church.
Metropolitan School District of Washington Township released a statement on Tuesday, according to RTV6, stating that the bus was one of two buses from Greenbriar Elementary School on a field trip. The district added in the statement that they were grateful for the quick response of emergency personnel, and that students and staff did an “excellent job” following safety protocols.
