RICHMOND, Va. — IC Bus showcased a variety of options for school bus customers at the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) trade show on Tuesday.

Trish Reed, vice president and general manager of IC Bus, said the focus on choices is part of the company’s “open integration strategy.”

For example, IC Bus now offers two transmission choices for its CE Series Type C school buses: the Allison PTS and the Eaton Procision — a new option that the company announced in July.

As for engines, customers can opt for a Cummins ISB6.7 diesel or a PSI 8.8L propane in the CE Series. Reed said that IC Bus also plans to offer a gasoline engine option in the near future, and then add a natural gas option as demand grows in the school bus industry.

Also on display at the OEM’s trade show booth was OnCommand Connection, Navistar’s open architecture remote diagnostic system, which is a new standard feature on all IC Bus school buses using an approved telematics partner. The system creates vehicle health reports with recommended actions based on operating conditions and the severity level of any fault codes.

Reed noted that OnCommand Connection, which has more than 4,000 fault codes, works for customers’ IC Bus models as well as other makes of school buses they may have in their fleet.
