HopSkipDrive has launched a Spanish-language version of its caregiver app, giving Spanish-speaking families access to ride tracking, notifications, onboarding, settings, and live support in their preferred language. The company said additional languages are planned during the 2026-2027 school year as it expands language accessibility across its platform.

The update is designed to reduce communication barriers for school districts serving multilingual communities. Caregivers whose mobile devices are already set to Spanish will automatically see the app in Spanish, with no additional setup required. The platform also delivers push and SMS ride notifications in Spanish and offers access to Spanish-speaking support agents for active rides.

For Spanish-speaking families, this update means:

• Caregivers know the moment their driver is on the way, when their child is picked up, and when they arrive safely, communicated in Spanish.
• Direct access to support and updates in their preferred languages, which, according to the company, “closes the gap that could mean confusion during the moments that matter most.”
• HopSkipDrive’s Caregiver Great Start program, which reaches out to new families before their first ride to walk them through the app, is now offered in Spanish as well as English so that Spanish-speaking families can be walked through the app in their preferred language.

According to Corey McMahon, HopSkipDrive's chief product and technology officer, language accessibility plays a key role in ensuring families can confidently use student transportation services.

"Language access is one of the biggest hidden barriers to getting kids to school reliably, especially in districts serving large multilingual caregiver populations," McMahon said. "As school communities become more diverse, transportation providers need to meet caregivers where they are, not just in the vehicle, but in the app experience they use every day to coordinate their child's ride."

Spanish Marks First Step in Broader Language Expansion

McMahon said Spanish was selected as the first additional language because of the size and needs of the communities HopSkipDrive serves across 21 states.

"Spanish was the clear starting point given the size and needs of the communities we serve,” he said. “Our focus is on access: making sure every caregiver, regardless of the language they speak, can fully understand and use the tools that get their kids to school.”

The company said future language additions will follow the same approach, prioritizing the greatest need among its district and caregiver base while ensuring each language is fully supported throughout the app experience rather than partially translated.

"Every student deserves safe, reliable transportation, and that starts with caregivers being able to fully understand and trust the tools they're using to get their kids to school," McMahon said.

HopSkipDrive said the update is intended to help districts improve communication with families, reduce support calls, and streamline student transportation without adding additional work for transportation staff.
