TULSA, Okla. — Opting to continue his involvement in the student transportation industry, former Oklahoma state pupil transportation director Randy McLerran started in his new position at National Bus Sales this week.

The company offers new, used and reconditioned buses, as well as bus customization services.

"I'm honored to be able to work with a company that is known for their excellence in sales, service and equipment," McLerran told SBF in an interview. He will be working as a school transportation specialist and sales representative.

McLerran brings 31 years of experience and a passion for student transportation to his new position. One of his many goals, he said, is to help schools overcome budget problems.

"We're hoping to expand our services to schools," McLerran said. "I want to try to solve some of the budget dilemmas they have and provide safe and efficient transportation and equipment for them."

McLerran, who served as state pupil transportation director for 20 years and retired from the position earlier this month, said that the best part about working in the industry is the opportunity to collaborate with people who are committed to meeting the needs of students.

"There is no one in public education more passionate about their jobs than school transportation personnel. They are very dedicated," he said. "They really make a difference in children's lives, both in supplying opportunities and removing barriers for them to access a good education, and making certain that the service we provide is the safest that anyone could possibly provide."

In addition to his work in transportation, McLerran is also a former high school history and government teacher, a special-education instructor and an elementary school principal. While holding these jobs, he also drove a school bus.

"[I'm] very excited," he said of his new position at National Bus Sales. "I can continue to work in public school transportation, just from a little different perspective."
