WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — A father who allegedly boarded a school bus and assaulted the driver last week has been arrested after turning himself in.
Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools district officials told FOX 8 that the bus driver was leaving an elementary school, preparing to drive students home around 4:30 p.m. on March 2, when Ronnie Haskins boarded the bus. Haskins left his car and approached the bus, and when the driver opened the door to see what he wanted, Haskins said he wanted to take his daughter off the bus, News 5 reports. After the driver refused, Haskins allegedly began punching him in the face, school district officials told FOX 8. He then reportedly drove away with the girl, who was later found at her mother’s house unharmed.
District officials told FOX 8 that the driver, who works for school bus contractor Petermann Inc., followed the proper procedure, and that drivers cannot release students to anyone once they pull away from the curb. The driver is recovering from his injuries.
Police said that Haskins turned himself in on an outstanding felony assault warrant on Tuesday, according to FOX 8.
