WARRENVILLE, Ill. — Durham School Services has been listed among the top 100 companies that provide the most opportunities for Latinos by LATINO Magazine.
LATINO Magazine recognizes companies that benefit the Latino community in a variety of areas, including philanthropy, diversity, hiring and programs that positively impact Latinos.
Durham supports the Latino community by investing in civic organizations, including the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), which provides educational and training opportunities for Latino elected officials.
“Durham’s strong and consistent support of Latino civic organizations clearly demonstrates a strong commitment to community partnership and helps many in our community better execute their responsibilities,” said Alfredo J. Estrada, publisher of LATINO Magazine.
The LATINO 100, published annually, is a compilation of companies that have a clear outreach and media strategy to inform the Latino community of job opportunities and other community initiatives.
“We are proud to be recognized by LATINO Magazine for our commitment to partnering with and supporting the Latino community,” said David A. Duke, CEO of National Express, the parent company of Durham School Services. “Respect for people is one of our core values and this recognition is testimony to the success of our focus on people.”
Additionally, Durham recently acquired Folmsbee’s Transportation Inc. in Waterford, New York, and will now operate student transportation services for almost a dozen school districts in the region, including:
• Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free School District
• Green Island Union Free School District
• Menands School District
• Putnam County School District
• Doane Stuart School
• Watervliet City Schools
• Lansingburgh Central School District
“We are working diligently towards a seamless and successful transition,” said Kim Worster, chief operating officer for Durham School Services. “Preparations are already underway to ensure a safe and smooth operation for the upcoming school year and we look forward to providing our new customers with the safe and reliable service for which we are known.”
Durham will be operating 103 buses from its customer service center in Waterford. As a result of the acquisition, Durham’s team has grown by 130 employees. The company is currently looking to hire approximately a dozen school bus drivers to join the team.
“With locations in nearby Albany, Troy and Schenectady, we already enjoy a strong presence in eastern New York,” Duke said Duke. “We are excited by this opportunity and to expand our business further in the capital region.”
