CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — Douglas County School District bus drivers will forgo pay on snow days in the upcoming school year as part of their contract negotiations with the district, the Highlands Ranch Herald reports.
The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) 1737's concession will save the district approximately $43,000 per snow day. The district is facing an $18 million budget shortfall.
The school board voted last week to approve a tentative contract with about 400 bus drivers and mechanics. ATU members still must work out some details, including the approval of resumption of a pay-for-performance system (which was suspended for four years due to budget cuts) and a new annual evaluation system.
