CHICAGO — Prosecutors said that a school bus driver’s blood alcohol level was nearly three times the state limit at the time of a crash that killed one person and injured several others.
The Associated Press reported that Jerry Moncrease, who drove special-needs students for a local transportation company, was charged with reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence with a suspended or revoked license.
On May 21, Moncrease’s bus struck multiple cars and a pedestrian, who later died from injuries in the incident. Eight other people, including Moncrease, were hospitalized.
While there were no students on the bus at the time of the crash, prosecutors said that Moncrease had drunk whiskey before driving two children to school. He then allegedly drank a six-pack of beer before causing the wreck.
