WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school board said Tuesday that it will start issuing warnings to parents who don’t meet their young children at the bus stop, and might eventually bar children from riding the bus, the Winston-Salem Journal reports.

The new policy, adopted unanimously this week, will replace a $10 fine, which some parents didn’t pay. Now, the first three violations will result in warnings, the fourth a one-day bus ban, the fifth a two-day bus ban and the sixth could result in a ban that lasts for the remainder of the school year.

The change is being made because of repeat violators whose pre-K through first-grade children are taken to local high schools, which have turned into de facto day cares, according to officials.
