FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A pilot program expected to cut transportation costs for Broward County Public Schools would have high school students use transit buses instead of yellow school buses, with the district paying the county for the service, the Sun Sentinel reports.
Broward commissioners agreed last week to pursue the pilot program, and officials hope to test the program with a few high school routes this fall.
Busing for Broward County students is available to those who live at least two miles from their assigned or chosen school. Some buses pick up teens from distant locations for countywide magnet schools.
