BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Jefferson County School District officials are telling drivers to stop parking their buses at their homes because it increases fuel and mileage costs, according to a story on AL.com.
An internal audit on the district's 400 buses shows that 61 of them are going home each day with their drivers to places farther than their bus route, adding approximately $172,000 in fuel costs, according to the news outlet.
The district only allows drivers to take buses home overnight if they live closer than where they would normally park their buses.
Jefferson County Deputy Superintendent Yancy Morris said that he is talking with drivers about finding a more efficient place to park their buses, but he warned school board members that some drivers may resign over the crackdown.
