District board proposes multi-tier bus schedule
The board of education for Guilford County Schools in North Carolina will hold meetings for community input on the proposed schedule, which could save the district $1.1 million to $1.6 million.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Guilford County Schools Board of Education will hold community forums on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 to discuss a proposed multi-tier bus transportation program for the 2011-12 school year.
The program is being proposed as a way to increase efficiency while reducing operating costs. Officials said that the program could potentially save the district $1.1 million to $1.6 million.
Traditional schools would move to a three-tier bus schedule, which would alleviate overcrowding and long ride times. School start and end times would be moved to later in the day to accommodate the new bus schedules.

Guilford County Schools transports 41,231 students on 624 buses to and from traditional, magnet and alternative schools. The buses currently run from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. each day.
