The San Marcos (Texas) City Council has approved a $300 civil penalty for illegally passing a school bus following a 15-week study conducted by BusGuard, a company that provides stop-arm cameras for school buses, that shed light on the severity of the problem.
SAN MARCOS, Texas — The San Marcos City Council has approved a $300 civil penalty for illegally passing a school bus, KEYE TV reports.
The city council approved the measure following a pilot program in San Marcos: A 15-week study conducted by BusGuard, a company that provides stop-arm cameras for school buses, shed light on the severity of the problem. Marketing Director Slater Swartwood told the news outlet that since the pilot study, 1,900 violations have occurred.
School districts in four other cities in central Texas are also participating in pilot programs using the BusGuard system. When the stop-arm cameras capture footage of a violation, footage is sent to law enforcement officials to review, and a citation is issued.
