CORONA, Calif. — An elementary school student here is the latest winner of First Student’s artwork contest.

The contest celebrates the experience of riding the school bus through artwork created by students in school districts across North America.

First Student selected the latest winning entry from the Corona-Norco Unified School District. Ruby Boula, a second grade student at Temescal Valley Elementary School, captured how “Happiness starts with yellow” with her drawing.

First Student awarded the elementary school $1,000 to put toward classroom supplies. The winning artwork entry was also featured in an issue of District Administration magazine as part of an ongoing First Student campaign.

“We are proud of Ruby and excited for our school,” said Beth Feaster, Temescal Valley Elementary principal. “Our students showed a lot of creativity in their artwork, and we enjoyed partnering with First Student to celebrate the lasting memories that are made on the way to and from school.”

First Student has awarded more than $15,000 to schools with winning entries in participating districts that the company serves. Previous selections have been in Olathe Public Schools in Kansas, the Lewisville Independent School District in Texas, the Jericho School District in New York, and Cincinnati Public Schools.

“The school bus plays such an integral role in the lives of children,” said Lisa Serra, First Student area general manager. “Through this artwork contest, we get a chance to see what riding a First Student bus means to the students we serve.”

Contest submissions are also being shared on First Student's Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts using the hashtag #MasterpieceMonday.
