Calif. district eliminates bus service for 600 students
Petaluma City Schools makes the change in response to the $3.3 million in budget cuts it will face if a tax initiative is not passed in November. The district partners with a city transit service to provide transportation for the students affected.
PETALUMA, Calif. — Petaluma City Schools has eliminated bus service for about 600 students who live more than three miles from their school, the Petaluma Patch reports.
The change is in response to the $3.3 million in budget cuts the district will face this year if Gov. Jerry Brown’s tax initiative doesn’t pass in November. The district has partnered with Petaluma Transit to provide city bus service for the students affected.
Students with disabilities and those who live in rural areas will continue to receive school bus service, although these routes will be consolidated.
