Calif. district considers increasing bus fees

Officials say this could bring in an additional $25,000 for the district, and they are also recommending a move to streamline bus routes, which would save about $100,000.

TEMECULA, Calif. — The Temecula Valley Unified District board will consider raising bus fees and streamlining routes at its meeting on Tuesday, The Press-Enterprise reports.

Annual round-trip bus passes would rise from $520 to $550 under the proposal, and one-way passes would increase from $260 to $275. One-ride passes, which are sold in groups of 10, would cost $4.41, up from $3.80.

Officials also are recommending a move to bus corridors, where bus stops are combined and buses pick up and drop off students along a main street. Transportation Director Jason Osborn told The Press-Enterprise that this would reduce the amount of time and mileage used by the buses. The recommended changes would save about $100,000. The bus fee increase could bring in an additional $25,000.
