Engineering students promote environmentally-friendly school buses
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Members of a local chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) have partnered with Erie County to reduce diesel-powered school bus emissions. The Erie County Clean School Bus Initiative will use data gathered by University of Buffalo ESW students to educate school officials about the issue and advocate installing emission-reducing equipment on school buses. Contractor cuts routes, mixes grade levels on school buses
NORTH BEND, Ore. — North Bend School District is reducing the number of its afternoon bus routes and combining fifth- and sixth-graders with high school students on board, raising concerns among some parents. Mid-Columbia Bus Company, which has managed the district's routes since last year, said that the changes save about $43,000 per year and that the children are separated by age on the bus.
