INDIANAPOLIS — School bus service was delayed by two hours for three schools here last Thursday morning because thieves stole batteries from 30 buses, WTHR reports.

Dan Stumphouse with A&S Transportation, which provides busing for the affected schools, told the news source that the batteries were stolen overnight from the buses, which were located in the company’s parking lot. A&S Transportation told WTHR that two batteries were stolen from each bus.

Terri Cole, assistant manager for the bus company, told the news source she arrived at the bus depot just after 5 a.m. on Thursday and noticed the gate had been cut. When she went to inspect the buses, she found that the battery doors were open on all of the buses in the parking lot. Julian Jones, transportation manager for A&S Transportation, told the news source the company immediately notified the schools. Mechanics had a few extra batteries on hand, but they had to rush out to find more.

The bus company moved to its current location about one year ago. Leaders became suspicious when another gate was cut a few weeks ago, WTHR reports. There is no surveillance video available of the incident.
