FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Batteries from more than a dozen Broward County Public Schools buses were stolen recently, CBS Miami reports.
School district spokeswoman Nadine Drew told the news source that bus drivers arrived at the terminal on Monday and discovered that 16 buses had no batteries. Each bus had two batteries, so a total of 32 were stolen.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office told CBS Miami that whoever took the batteries probably wanted to sell them for scrap for the lead weight. Sheriff’s investigators have visited eight scrap yards in Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach.
