QUEENS, N.Y. — A school bus aide here has been arrested after allegedly leaving a 4-year-old girl on a school bus for six hours, NBC4 New York reports.

On Wednesday, Dec. 21, Venecia Bisono reportedly failed to make sure that all the students got off the bus for school that morning, and the girl was locked in the bus from about 8 a.m. until a little after 1 p.m., according to the news source. A bus driver found her when he began his shift, and his supervisor told him to drop the girl off at her home. The girl told her parents what happened, and they called the police.

Police said that Bisono was charged with failure to exercise control of a minor and reckless endangerment, according to NBC4 New York.

A spokesperson for the New York City Department of Education (DOE) told the news source that the bus was not on a DOE-contracted route, and that the family apparently paid for it privately.
