Stats show safer roads

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)'s latest Fatality Analysis Reporting System data, there were 33,561 highway deaths in 2012. While that was a 3% increase from 2011, NHTSA officials pointed out that highway deaths over the past five years continue to remain at historic lows.

Pennsylvania House approves audio recordings bill

The legislation would permit the use of the recordings on school buses, but school boards would have to vote on policies outlining the audiotaping rules, and parents would have to be notified. The bill had been approved by the state Senate in June, and it has since been amended to also allow police to use audio-equipped cameras anywhere except in a residence without prior court approval.

Push for electric school buses in Massachusetts

Gov. Deval Patrick and his administration are investing in three programs to support alternative fuel vehicles and related infrastructure across Massachusetts, including the launch of an electric school bus pilot program. The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources will provide $1.8 million in grants for eight electric school buses with vehicle-to-grid capability.
