Minn. district targets efficiency, saves $500K per year

Three years ago, the Anoka-Hennepin School District increased walking distances from homes to bus stops for all grade levels, which has enabled the district to reduce the number of buses it uses by 10 and to achieve a $500,000 annual savings. Driving 'school bus' car, Stenhouse wins NASCAR race

Dan Daniels to join C.E. White Co.

Daniels, who announced last week that he will leave his position as president of Trans Tech Bus to be closer to his family, will serve as vice president of engineering and product development for the school bus seating manufacturer. Officials say the companies will work together over the next 120 days to ensure a smooth transition for incoming Trans Tech President John Phraner and Trans Tech customers.

NHTSA updates school transportation crash stats

There were 1,236 fatal school transportation-related crashes from 2001 to 2010, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports. That’s 0.34% of the total 363,839 fatal motor vehicle traffic crashes during that time period.

NYC Dept. of Education honored for GIS work

The department receives a Special Achievement in GIS award at an Esri conference. Alex Robinson, executive director of the department’s Office of Pupil Transportation, tells SBF that in addition to the more than 8,000 school buses on routes daily, "we couldn’t do what we do without amazing mapping technology and GIS experts."
