School bus drivers aid in Boston evacuation

After the explosions at last week's Boston Marathon, eight school bus drivers from AA Transportation stepped up to shuttle people away from the site. Company President Ron Ernenwein commends the drivers for their actions, noting that "not one person opted to go home, complained the assignment was too hard or took a break after the 18th hour of shuttling."

New York bus drivers gear up for safety competition

Drivers from around the state will participate in the 42nd Annual New York State School Bus Safety Competition, which is scheduled to be held in Valley Cottage, N.Y., on May 18. Officials say the 125 participants will take a written exam and then test their skills on a road course.

Police seek man who followed girl around bus stop

Authorities in Redlands, Calif., ask for the public's help to identify a man who followed an 11-year-old girl on her way to and from a school bus stop last week. During the second incident, the man began asking the girl questions about her school and her clothing.

47-year school bus driver honored in New York

Pat Beesmer, a driver for Ethan Allen Transportation, is named School Bus Driver of the Year in Ulster County. A mother of three kids who have been passengers on Beesmer's bus says that she is "very tuned in to every child's needs — those who occasionally get bus sick, and those who miss Mom or Dad on their first day of school."

New Jersey bus company honored for philanthropic work

B.R. Williams Inc. is recognized by the Salem County Chamber of Commerce as the county’s Distinguished Citizens of the Year for its efforts to assist victims of national tragedies. Following Hurricane Sandy, the company organized a “Stuff the Bus” event, delivering 17 busloads of goods, and following the Newtown, Conn., school shooting, the company donated a bus to help in transporting students and residents to a victim’s funeral.
