Holland Bus Co. invests more than $1M to expand facility

The Michigan-based dealership for Blue Bird Corp. now features over 9,000 square feet of service space, including six new service bays dedicated to school buses, 8,000 square feet for body repairs, 5,000 square feet of parts inventory and 3,000 square feet dedicated to sales support. Officials say the expansion accommodates the growing demand for Blue Bird school bus sales, and parts and service support.

District must bus student to both parents’ homes

The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania rules that a school district in Lancaster must provide the service to the student from both of his divorced parents’ homes, upholding an older ruling by a county judge who found that the district was violating the state Public School Code by refusing to provide such service. The Commonwealth Court judge notes that the school bus that serves the neighborhood has empty seats and could accommodate the boy without adding another stop along its route.

Jim Folkes joined Krapf Bus Companies in 2010 and most recently served as vice president of Krapf School Bus. Krapf Bus Companies has also promoted Shawn McGlinchey to vice president of risk management. He previously served as director of risk management.

The Toronto boy reportedly boarded the wrong bus on Monday morning and was taken to a school that was not the one he attended. Hours after police issued an alert that the 4-year-old was missing, he is located at the wrong school, where he may have been mistaken for a new student.

School bus drivers train to take on active shooters

Transportation staff at Nevada's Storey County School District spent a stimulating day learning how to respond to shooters and other security threats on the bus. The session included hands-on training on how to use the bus to throw an armed intruder to the floor and even how to physically disarm or incapacitate the intruder.
