First Student has been selected by Seneca Valley School District (SVSD) in Pennsylvania to provide transportation services beginning with the 2025-26 school year. The partnership includes nearly 150 new buses equipped with First Student’s HALO technology, which provides real-time visibility, safety features, and communication tools.
Fleet and Technology Updates
All new buses will feature on-vehicle safety technology, including driver tablets, AI cameras, video systems, and a child check system. Families will have access to the FirstView app, which offers live GPS bus tracking and a direct channel for submitting feedback to district staff.
HALO also supports districts with route optimization, driver navigation, and tools to monitor student behavior, creating a link between drivers and administrators.
Leadership Perspectives
“At First Student, our focus is on delivering a safe and reliable experience for every student,” said John Kenning, president and CEO of First Student. “For Seneca Valley families, that includes real-time bus tracking through the FirstView app and a new fleet supported by advanced safety technology.”
“Seneca Valley is committed to providing the safest and most reliable transportation possible for our students,” added Dr. Tracy Vitale, superintendent of schools. “We welcome this new partnership with First Student and appreciate the resources they bring to support our program.”
Brian Fitzgerald, senior vice president, Mid-Atlantic Region at First Student, added: “Safety, service, and community are at the core of everything we do. We are proud to bring our technology and expertise to Seneca Valley.”
Driver Recruitment
First Student is recruiting drivers for the district, offering competitive pay, paid instruction, and training. The company’s First Serves program equips drivers with tools and training to support students with disabilities, promoting an inclusive and supportive ride for all students.
