An 11-year-old girl was killed in an accident involving a school bus in Parachute, Colorado, on Thursday morning. Police say the student was running to catch the moving bus when she tripped and fell under the wheels.

Parachute Police report that first responders from their department, as well as Grand Valley Fire, and the Grand Valley Sheriff's Office arrived to assist. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident was turned over to the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit to be investigated.

Police said no additional information would be released until the final reports from the Garfield County Coroner's Office and vehicular crimes unit were completed.

There were other students on the bus, according to Police. The student's school district, Garfield County School District No. 16, responded saying the district has and will continue to provide mental health and grief support for students, staff, and the community.
