SACRAMENTO, Calif. — With veteran California state director John Green set to retire at the end of the month, one of his longtime staff members has been named to take over his position.

Anna Borges will officially become supervisor of the Department of Education’s Office of School Transportation (OST) on Dec. 30, when Green retires. In the position, which is designated as the state pupil transportation director, Borges will have a wealth of industry experience to draw from.

She has been on the OST staff for more than 10 years. Before that, she held various director and supervisory positions with Santa Barbara (Calif.) Transportation and Student Transportation of America.

Borges has also served as president of the California Association of School Transportation Officials.

She has joined Green at past conferences of the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services. At the conference this fall in Portland, Ore., she was a panelist in a discussion on reducing pedestrian fatalities.
