James Lash of the York County School Division will serve a two-year term as president of VAPT.

James T. Lash has been elected to serve a two-year term as president of the Virginia Association for Pupil Transportation (VAPT).

The election was held at the VAPT conference in Richmond in June.

Lash is the associate director of transportation for the York County School Division in Yorktown. He began his transportation career in 1981 as a substitute school bus driver, and he has also held positions as a trainer and supervisor.

“I am thrilled to serve VAPT in my new capacity as president,” Lash said. “I am looking forward to working alongside committed staff and critical partners to extend our impact in service of pupil transportation.”

“James’s experience in the field will be a tremendous resource for our organization, as we work to educate all members about the tangible benefits of safe, efficient, and reliable student transportation," VAPT member Tanya Deckard said.

VAPT has a membership of more than 315 transportation professionals. The association will celebrate its 40th year beginning on Oct. 25.
