The funding from the N.C. Volkswagen Settlement Program is earmarked primarily for rural counties, especially under-resourced communities. It will go toward buying 161 electric, propane, and lower-emission diesel school buses throughout North Carolina.
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) extended the deadline until the end of January for competitive projects to be funded by proceeds from Volkswagen settlement funds.
The effort includes $16.4 million in incentives for the expansion of electric bus usage amongst public transportation authorities, as well as $2.5 million for school bus operators to acquire cleaner forms of transportation with lower emissions.
