Fire prompts aide, drivers to distribute smoke detectors

Two children in West Virginia died in the fire in their home on Oct. 21. In response, a bus aide and a group of drivers, with the help of the Logan City Fire Department, give out hundreds of free smoke detectors to grade-school children who ride Logan County buses.

Pittsburgh Pirates support school bus safety event

A group of volunteers, including many people in the pupil transportation industry, planned and participated in the event, in which the volunteers provided tours of school buses and distributed flyers on yellow bus laws and other safety materials prior to a Pirates baseball game. Roger Botti of North Allegheny School District discusses with SBF the planning and outcome of the event, which was a year in the making.

EPA blogger touts yellow bus benefits

Superintendent reprimanded for personal use of bus, driver

Eric Becoats, superintendent of Durham (N.C.) Public Schools, used a school activity bus and driver in June to go to private events and paid an invoice for the cost of the bus and driver. He apologizes and says that he was informed of policies prohibiting personal use of the vehicles after he used the bus.

VIDEO: Young rappers hype the school bus as 'My Limo'

In the new video by Da Rich Kidzz — a Minneapolis hip hop group ranging in age from 10 to 13 — the youngsters ride a yellow bus and chant the refrain “my school bus is my limo.” While the spot is sponsored by Kmart and plugs back-to-school gear, it also carries messages that seem to promote school bus ridership.
