About a dozen Boston Public Schools bus routes were unstaffed Monday morning, leaving 400 students stranded. The bus contractor dispatched supervisors to drive buses Tuesday morning, “due to a continued shortage of union drivers willing to work,” but was able to cover all routes. The no-shows are related to a labor dispute that led to a strike last October.

The seats traveled from the supplier’s New Washington, Ohio, manufacturing plant to the Lion Bus facility in Quebec, Canada, where they were installed in new school buses before going full circle and getting shipped back to Ohio. Bedford City Schools is the first Ohio district to add buses from Lion Bus to its existing fleet.

Karl Simon, director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Air Office's Transportation and Climate Division, shares the news during NSTA's annual meeting. EPA provided $2 million in 2012 for school bus purchase rebates, and the program received over 1,000 applications for the 28 awards made.

Iowa City Attorney Eleanor Dilkes disagrees, saying that the law bans traffic cameras only for “qualified traffic violations” and stop-arm violations are not included.

The district had planned to start the process of terminating his employment, according to a spokeswoman.
