Trans Tech, Motiv partner for new all-electric school bus

The Type A school bus manufacturer and Motiv Power Systems have developed the SST-e, which will be revealed at the National Association for Pupil Transportation trade show on Tuesday and Wednesday. The bus is built on a Ford E-450 chassis, utilizing the all-battery, all-chassis compatible Motiv electric Powertrain Control System, and has a capacity of 30 students, or 24 students and one wheelchair, according to company officials.

Alfred Karam named <i>SBF</i>'s Administrator of the Year

At Bethlehem Central School District in Delmar, N.Y., Director of Transportation Alfred Karam has adopted a businesslike approach to running the transportation department, while also focusing on student safety. The transportation team was able to reduce its overall transportation budget by about $900,000 for the 2012-13 school year, and by tracking key performance indicators such as planned versus actual ridership, they have been able to consolidate their routes from 111 to 86.

Thermo King unveils HVAC solutions at NAPT

The supplier is showcasing its StudentAIRE line, which is designed to be compact and affordable for school bus operators, manufacturers and dealers. The line, which will be featured at the Thermo King booth during the trade show on Tuesday and Wednesday, includes a high performance air-conditioning system requiring minimal space; a bulkhead evaporator for small to mid-size school bus applications; and two split air-conditioning systems.

Grand Rapids conferences to cover crash results, security, KPIs

We need to develop a proactive approach — meaning run purposefully, hide intelligently and fight fiercely, in that order (fight only as a last resort) — to an active shooter scenario and teach it to everyone, especially students.
