Propane buses save Indiana district 50% on fuel costs

Tippecanoe School Corp. purchased five Propane-Powered Blue Bird Vision school buses last year, and Director of Transportation Kevin Neafie says the district pays nearly half the price for propane compared to diesel, and that so far, the operation has saved $10,000 on these five buses alone.

Dubai school transport conference draws global crowd

Speakers and delegates make recommendations in such areas as school transportation safety and security, driver training and road layout around schools. NAPT President Alex Robinson tells SBF that being at the event had a feeling of “what it was probably like to be at an early Warrensburg conference.”

Minnesota special-needs pupil transporters honored

Special-education school bus drivers and special-education transportation assistants are recognized for service excellence by the Minnesota Special Education Transportation Committee, in cooperation with the Minnesota Association for Pupil Transportation. First place winners in each category will have an opportunity to receive free training at the Minnesota School Bus Train the Trainer Instructor seminars in July.

Video shows 4-year-old alone on school bus

School bus video surveillance footage obtained by ABC15 shows an unsettling ordeal for a 4-year-old boy with special needs who was left behind. In the video, the boy appears to wake up, gets up from his seat and looks around. The youngster, holding his backpack, looks scared and unsure of what to do.

Abu Dhabi DOT unveils school bus regulations

The regulations are developed in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Education Council and Abu Dhabi Police GHQ with the aim to optimize school transportation. The regulations address requirements for school bus drivers, schools, bus age and operation time, and bus inspections.

Fleet expert Don Ross joins bus dealership LBS South

Ross is named service director for the school bus dealership in Jacksonville, Fla. He previously worked for the School District of Manatee County for more than 13 years in several positions, including director of transportation and vehicle maintenance.

Minneapolis district builds mobile command center

Minneapolis Public Schools’ plant operations and transportation services team spent four years converting an older school bus into the mobile command center. It’s outfitted with such equipment as a flat-screen TV, two-way radios and laptops, and it’s designed to be used as a command post in a major emergency that prohibits the district’s buses from successfully transporting students.
