2 bus drivers die in Iowa, New Mexico incidents

An Iowa school bus driver passes away after suffering a medical emergency during his route, but officials say that he pulled the bus over safely and no students were injured. The incident follows the death of another driver in New Mexico, where a bus went off of a road and down an embankment.

Bus driver suspended for cell phone use, lying about caller

Rossana Lucas receives a 10-day suspension after she is seen on a video surveillance camera taking a call, and she also picks up another driver at an unauthorized stop. Lucas tells officials for the Florida district that she had taken the call from her son, a Marine stationed in Iraq, but the district’s investigation reveals that her story doesn't add up, and she admits that the caller was not her son.

Under the five-year contract, Boston Public Schools will continue to own the district’s school bus fleet. Veolia Transportation will be responsible for all aspects of operations, including safety performance, training, hiring and management of employees, and vehicle maintenance.

Durham drivers honored for community outreach

The school bus contractor has a nationwide Adopt-a-School program, and four drivers in Stratford, Conn., receive certificates of appreciation for their contributions to students and faculty at an elementary school.
