Minneapolis district builds mobile command center

Minneapolis Public Schools’ plant operations and transportation services team spent four years converting an older school bus into the mobile command center. It’s outfitted with such equipment as a flat-screen TV, two-way radios and laptops, and it’s designed to be used as a command post in a major emergency that prohibits the district’s buses from successfully transporting students.

Abu Dhabi DOT unveils school bus regulations

The regulations are developed in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Education Council and Abu Dhabi Police GHQ with the aim to optimize school transportation. The regulations address requirements for school bus drivers, schools, bus age and operation time, and bus inspections.

DVD teaches bullying response techniques

The video, called “What Are You Going To Do?,” was created by the Oregon Pupil Transportation Association and Dr. Allan Beane, founder of Bully Free Systems. It depicts various types of bullying, with one situation leading to a student taking a bus hostage. Those involved in developing the video tell SBF the goals were to show a worst-case scenario and provide tools that drivers can use to address bullying.

Bus driver on leave after train tracks incident

The driver for a Louisiana district was placed on administrative leave after receiving a citation for driving around lowered railroad crossing guards in front of an oncoming train. At least 30 students were on the bus. Officials say the train was about 200 feet from the intersection when the bus crossed the tracks.

If confirmed, Anthony Foxx would replace Ray LaHood in leading the U.S. Department of Transportation. Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell says that Foxx has "firsthand knowledge of how to create jobs through smart investment in transportation and infrastructure."

Buses evacuated after student finds fake grenade

In the ongoing investigation, police say that after the student found the object on the bus, it was reportedly given to the bus driver, who evacuated the bus and notified officials. A bomb squad determines that it did not pose a threat, but students were also removed from other buses at a high school and taken into the school.

School bus drivers aid in Boston evacuation

After the explosions at last week's Boston Marathon, eight school bus drivers from AA Transportation stepped up to shuttle people away from the site. Company President Ron Ernenwein commends the drivers for their actions, noting that "not one person opted to go home, complained the assignment was too hard or took a break after the 18th hour of shuttling."
