Tennessee district awards expanded contract to Durham

15 students injured after firecracker goes off in bus

One student is seriously hurt and 14 suffer minor injuries on Tuesday after one or two children set off a firecracker on a bus that is taking students to a school in Brooklyn. Emergency crews responded to a report of a smoke condition on the bus just before 7:30 a.m.

EPA fines school bus operator $33,000 for idling

A Massachusetts contractor will pay the penalty and implement idling-reduction measures to settle U.S. EPA allegations that its school buses violated federally enforceable vehicle idling limits. Agency officials say that the company has responded quickly and has already implemented a number of the idling-reduction measures.

Pepper spray on school bus disrupts trip to volcano

The bus was en route to Washington's Mount St. Helens. After a student discharged pepper spray, the bus driver began to have trouble breathing but was able to pull over safely "before she became overwhelmed," according to the Washington State Patrol.
