SEATTLE — Fleet management technology supplier Zonar has released an updated version of its vehicle inspection reporting system.

The next generation of Zonar’s electronic verified inspection reporting (EVIR) solution comes with all the features of the original EVIR, but in a mobile-friendly app with additional features and functionality, according to a news release from the supplier. It is designed to improve and verify pre- and post-trip inspections mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

The new version of EVIR also continues to enable the reduction of processing time for inspections by more than 50%, according to the supplier, when shifting from traditional paper-based driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs).

Drivers and operators in the vocational, pupil, public transit, and commercial trucking industries can now conduct inspections with or without tags with the new EVIR system. Although using RFID or NFC tags enables inspections to be verified, not all fleets, particularly those with leased and rented equipment, can leverage tags. By enabling tagless EVIR inspections, users can easily and quickly ensure inspections are completed accurately and results are digitally stored without the need for extra hardware.

EVIR also offers Asset Map View, a new feature that shows aerial views of customers' vehicles and equipment with guides for tag placement, as well as training videos and links within the application.

Compliant with all U.S. Department of Transportation and Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspection requirements, EVIR was created to eliminate the need for paper-based reporting, helping drivers perform accurate inspections that are automatically collected and stored, and designed to be easily integrated into maintenance software. This enables organizations to conduct more efficient inspection audits, leading to fewer penalties due to lost records, according to Zonar. Accurate inspections also help increase uptime by ensuring vehicle and asset issues are identified and addressed before they become potentially critical ones.

Fred Fakkema, vice president of safety and compliance at Zonar, noted that the supplier introduced the solution nearly 20 years ago, with the goal of “helping make our roads safer and our customer operations safer and more easily compliant with industry regulations.”

"Today, drivers, managers, and operators need more options to protect and maintain both owned, intermodal, and rented vehicles and equipment,” Fakkema added. “We're proud to continue providing our customers with trusted and reliable solutions that help them support the overall health of their fleets and business."

Inspection history and data collected by EVIR can be accessed through Ground Traffic Control (GTC), Zonar's web-based platform providing customers with a real-time look at fleet operations along with reports and alerts, and the ability to manage a single asset or an entire fleet. With customized dashboards for a broad range of users, GTC helps users make data-driven decisions that help improve operations.

The latest version of the EVIR solution is now available in the Google Play store and later this year in the Apple store.
