Training session takes on school bus emergencies
An Ohio firefighter is offering training that communities may find they need to have but would hope they never need to use: responding to a severe school bus crash.
An Ohio firefighter is offering training that communities may find they need to have but would hope they never need to use: responding to a severe school bus crash.
Paul Hasenmeier of the Huron Fire Division offers his class, called “Prepare for School Bus Emergencies,” for mixed professions, including firefighters, police, paramedics, bus drivers, mechanics and school administrators.
“When researching, training and teaching school bus extrication,” Hasenmeier said, “I have found that many emergency responders haven’t been exposed to this technical rescue topic, and school districts don’t plan for the worst.”
The training session can comprise a classroom portion and a hands-on crash scenario portion, in which all of the entities that would respond to a school bus crash get involved.
