PADUCAH, Ky. — Two McCracken County Public Schools employees turned themselves in to a local jail on Tuesday after being indicted for theft.

The charge stemmed from an investigation that began in December when the Kentucky State Police were contacted by a representative for the school district about possible misuse of school transportation funds by district employees, KFVS reports.

The investigation showed that Thomas Clement and Christopher Stamper worked together to purchase thousands of dollars worth of automotive items and other tools with school transportation funds, authorities said. Many of the items were purchased for personal use, and many of the invoices for the items had been altered to show that the items were legitimate district-related purchases.

Last Friday, a Kentucky State Police detective presented the investigation to a McCracken County grand jury. The grand jury returned indictments for theft by unlawful taking over $10,000, and receiving stolen property over $10,000, according to KFVS.
