BOZEMAN, Mont. — A school district here has had to cancel a few bus routes due to a driver shortage being experienced by the company they contract with, KPAX reports.

First Student’s ongoing driver shortage has led Bozeman Public Schools to suspend four of its middle-school routes, and has caused some of its other routes to run late, according to the news source.

Fees were issued to First Student after the company was allegedly unable to meet the transportation needs the school district outlined in a new five-year contract signed in July, KPAX reports.

Mike Waterman, the district’s director of business services, told the news source that First Student issued a request to waive the fees and a request to amend the contract in hopes of replacing the fees with a different fee schedule.

Waterman added that the district has no plans to discontinue its contract with First Student, and that there is a possiblity the suspended bus routes could be operating again by Monday.

A spokesman from First Student told KPAX that the company has hired more drivers for the district, but they will need to complete training before they can start covering routes.
