NORTH FOLEY, Minn. — A school bus driver here has spent more than a half-century behind the wheel of a school bus and has no plans to retire anytime soon, St. Cloud Times reports.

Don Beehler, who drives a bus for Foley Public Schools, started his career driving school buses part time while also working on his family’s farm, according to the newspaper. He had retired in 1999, but returned full time when the school district needed bus driving help. The job has enabled Beehler to make connections with his coworkers and socialize, and he told St. Cloud Times that he missed driving a bus so much at one point when he had to take time off that he would stop by the garage when he could.

Kevin Seifermann, the transportation director for the district, told the newspaper that Beehler is very loyal, is always on time, and is “very good with the kids.”

Beehler has seen many changes throughout the years he has driven school buses, such as buses now being equipped with power brakes and power steering, and larger buses that can carry nearly double the number of students, according to St. Cloud Times. He told the newspaper that he does not have a second retirement date planned, and will stop driving "when my health don’t allow me to, or when they just feel my driving skills aren’t good and they ask me to quit."
