GERMANTOWN, Wis. — The Wisconsin Asthma Coalition (WAC) presented Riteway Bus Service Inc. with the 2010 WAC Taking Action for Asthma Award during its fall meeting on Oct. 15.

Riteway was chosen by WAC for its leadership and commitment to reducing air pollution and providing a safer environment for people with asthma. To “green” its fleet, Riteway has established idle reduction and fuel conservation programs, outfitted its buses with emission control technologies, and in early 2011, it will operate some hybrid school buses, according to the company.

Ronald Bast, president of Riteway, accepted the award that was presented by Rhonda Yngsdal-Krenz, respiratory care supervisor for American Family Hospital, and WAC chair.

Riteway was also recognized for its environmental efforts this year with the 2010 Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air Award and the 2010 United Motorcoach Association Green Highway Award.

Riteway has been family owned and operated since 1957. The company operates from eight locations in southeastern and central Wisconsin with a fleet of more than 500 vehicles. Riteway provides transportation for schoolchildren, business travelers, tourists and local residents.

On Oct. 1, Riteway expanded its transportation family with the purchase of GO Airport Connection.

Go Airport Connection provides door-to-door transportation service linking Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport, and Chicago's O'Hare International and Midway International airports with all of southeastern Wisconsin.

"We feel Go Airport Connection is an ideal fit and rounds out our selection of transportation services, affording Riteway the opportunity to further meet the transportation needs of our valued customers," Bast stated.

Go Airport Connection started in Sheboygan, Wis., in 1983 with a single van and a car providing airport shuttle service between the Sheboygan area and General Mitchell International Airport.
