NEW YORK CITY — More than 16,000 school buses here will soon have a traction recovery device on board under a newly approved contract.
Trac-Grabber LLC won a bid to supply tire traction grips for school buses that provide service for the New York City Department of Education.

Trac-Grabber is described as a rescue and recovery device that can be strapped to the drive wheels of a vehicle to help the driver get “unstuck” from snow, mud, or sand.
For the New York City Department of Education contract, the Florida-based company will provide three models of its traction grips and a one-time training for each contracted school bus operator. The five-year deal totals just over $2.1 million.
Diego Dana, vice president of fleet sales for Trac-Grabber, told SBF that the company’s three basic models for school buses are the TG-COMM-D for large standard school buses, the TG-T01 for medium standard school buses, and the TG-C01 for small school buses.
Jim Perry, founder and CEO of Trac-Grabber, added that the company is "very proud of our accomplishments, acknowledgments, endorsements, and product awards, but winning the bid for the NYC [Department of Education] is really special for us."
