PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A teenager was sent to the hospital on Tuesday after he was struck by a motorist while trying to board a school bus, according to the Port Arthur Police Department.
At 6:28 a.m., officers determined that a school bus was stopped — or slowing to a stop — and the bus driver had activated the flashing red lights and extended stop arm. A 16-year-old boy tried to cross the road in front of the bus in an attempt to board the bus. Police said that a motorist approached the bus from behind, ignored the flashing lights and stop arm, tried to pass the bus, and hit the boy in the road in front of the bus.
The boy was transported to the hospital with several broken bones and possible internal injuries.
The motorist was not charged at the scene, but may face felony criminal charges after police complete an investigation, according to the Port Arthur Police Department.
